When I was a child we spent one summer in Port Hope, Michigan near the tip of the Thumb Area. We had a little cottage high on the cliffs overlooking Lake Michigan. My dad worked there for the summer and my brother and I would have fun playing all day. At night or the weekends my dad took us touring around the area. We went to Bad Axe, Grindstone City, and Port Austin. At night we would watch the freighters far out in the water which looked like a string of lights the way they were lit up. This was probably the first time I saw the black sky with a million stars instead of looking out from the city and seeing an occasional star. This is one of my favorite summer memories.
