    • Travel Rambling

      Posted at 2:39 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on August 10, 2009

I missed my daily blog for two days. I guess that means I don’t qualify for the badge that says I blogged daily. It made me wonder if I wanted to blog on a daily basis, but I’m starting to get in the habit of it now. So, if I write three today, will that count? I was still writing, in fact, writing a lot, but not here. So, I guess I was blogging daily! I am writing a blog post for another blog about some of my travels. I don’t know if it will be accepted. If not, I will submit it to my other writing site where I can get paid for clicks to the page. It’s not much; only a half a penny per click or something like that. But, it’s fun, and I get comments which help my writing anyway.

Traveling is something I love to do. Last November I traveled by myself to California to spend Thanksgiving with my oldest son. The flight was long, or I should say FLIGHTS. It took three different planes to get there. It made for a tiring day, but I would do it all over again if I had the chance. Traveling alone is both good and bad. The good part is you can do whatever you want, whenever you want while at the airport. If you want to get up and get a cup of coffee or something to eat, you don’t have to ask anyone else where they would like to go. You make the decision, you go. And, you don’t have to sit next to a stranger if you’re not sitting in the middle. On the flipside, one bad part I can think of is going to the bathroom. It’s not like it used to be, in that, you don’t dare leave your baggage anywhere alone. That means if you have your laptop out, you pack it back up, put it away, give up your seat, and go to the bathroom, or wherever it is you’re going. And, no matter where you sit, you’re next to a stranger.

I had my laptop bag on my shoulder, and my wheeled carry-on, plus a purse! Try carrying a cup of coffee, a bottle of water, and a bagel. It’s possible; I did it! Put your purse in your carry-on, or hang it over the handle, stick the water anywhere you can find where it will fit, and put the laptop strap across your chest instead of just on your shoulder. At least it will be secured that way. You don’t want to take the chance of it slipping off your shoulder with a cup of hot coffee in your hand. Other than not having someone to talk to on a long flight, or when you have to wait three hours like it did, I do prefer to travel alone sometimes. I’m yearning for another trip as we speak! I’ll save my trip home for another blog! Now, if we’re talking about car travel… that’s a whole new story, too!
