    • Short Snippet Saturday and a Share: Dead of Winter Journey 2 Cover Reveal & Journey 1 Info

      Posted at 10:27 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on January 23, 2021

For Short Snippet Saturday today, I’m sharing a Cover Reveal and short snippet for Dead of Winter Journey 2 Penllyn and info about Dead of Winter, Journey 1. Get started reading before the second installment arrives in February.

As Teagan says: With Dead of Winter, I call the installments Journeys, because the characters travel across the complex world I built, experiencing new cultures and meeting new people. These journeys will publish approximately monthly.  Length will range from 30 to 60 pages, or so.

Welcome to my sanctuary. A place where all are safe from the anxiety tied to religion, politics, and other things that get in the way of friendship.  Lest I seem insensitive, my only remark to that, is that I’m writing this post in advance, and I’m terrified of what might happen on the 20th (Inauguration Day in the USA).  Now all political remarks are done.  Come on in and we’ll bask in one another’s positive “light” and spirits.

      Cover Reveal

This may not be much of a cover reveal, since I’ve already shared it with a few of the people who hosted the launch of Dead of Winter.  With the first Journey, Emlyn had her back to us, facing the unknown.  With Journey 2, Penllyn, she turns to face us.

Wade Emory falls fast for women, yet it’s a well-known fact his relationships don’t last. On a trip to the Pacific Coast to visit his ill brother, he slips into his bad habit when he meets a hotheaded mom with a son who spews four-letter words. However, after enjoying nearly a week with them, she and the boy leave early. Before she’s gone forever, he convinces her to meet up again to pick up where they left off on the beach. Then, at home, an unexpected visitor pops in, and he learns the past harbors secrets and lies that don’t always stay hidden. Life’s lessons have taught him that people don’t stick around, so how can he prevent a relationship with Sophie from becoming another failure?

Sophie Price-Daniels needs a change of scenery. The opportunity arises when she flies to California to bail her trouble-making brother out of jail. When he directs his anger at her and her boy, a stranger steps in, but a hero is the last thing she wants. She’s alone and living in her self-appointed prison of grief, until…until she peers into his warm yet saddened eyes. As desires long forgotten force their way to the surface, she’s faced with a dilemma—to give in to her needs and accept a new future is possible for her and her son—or back away and continue to believe she’s betraying a man who is no longer with them.

Two lonely people need to trust each other—and themselves—to overcome their unfortunate pasts.

This is one of my favorite covers to date. Hooked by Sundown turned out to be another of my favorite books, as well. Giving this secondary character in the series a book was the right choice. I knew he had a story lurking inside. Poor guy.

      Thanks to:

My talented cover designer, Dawnè Dominique at DuskTilDawn Designs, for creating more than a dozen covers for me. When she sent me the first draft for Hooked by Sundown, I accepted it with no changes to be made. She has a way of getting into my head and seeing my vision, but with her artistic eye to keep me focused. You know you’ve met the perfect team member when this happens. You have no idea, and I’ll never tell, all the special things she did to create certain aspects of this cover.

Thanks to the male cover model, Mathias, for bringing Wade to life. As soon as I saw him, I knew he was the same Wade I had in my head. I swear, he walked out of my head and into the door at Period Images. VJ Dunraven sure knows how to capture a moment with her camera.

Thanks so much for coming around today to join me in showing off my newest cover to the world. I’ll return with links when the book is available.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

      FINDING KIMBER

      FindingKimber_2021_MED

      About the Book:

She’s wary of her future. He’s burdened by his past.

Cattleman Zachary (Zach) Bryson arrives in Arizona with hopes of leaving the ghosts from his past behind. Hired by a stranger to run a ranch, he meets the owner—a secretive woman with no ranching experience. He’s seen her before, but she wasn’t a redhead with green eyes. In their first encounter, she swept him off his feet without their exchanging a word. Why did she change her appearance? What secrets lay behind those heart-stopping eyes? Seeing this job as a challenge, he sticks around to tackle this hottie head-on.

Kimber Sinclair is forced to flee her lush Oregon county for a small town in Arizona with sand, saguaros, and dusty cowboys. She settles in to live a lie—to discover the person behind her new identity while she mourns the death of Tressa Garnett—her given name at birth. However, keeping a distance from her ruggedly handsome, broad-shouldered, wise-cracking ranch foreman, isn’t easy. She struggles daily to hide her secret from Zach who demands answers. By telling him the truth, his life could also be in danger.

If trouble finds her, will she choose fight or flight? Can Zach set aside his own issues, or will his nightmares prevent him from doing what he was unknowingly hired to do?

Note: Zach made his first appearance in Lassoing the Last Dance as Randy Drake’s best friend.

If you’re a newsletter subscriber, this post looks familiar because it’s similar to the recent newsletter you received, minus the excerpt.

      Some of Chapter One:

Regardless of her determination not to cry, tears trailed down Tressa Garnett’s cheeks. Greg Stone, the prosecuting attorney, continued to badger her on the witness stand. Wasn’t he on her side? Her ordeal played over like a documentary film. She had become Sam’s lover. Yes, she worked on and off with him for three years. She hesitated at the next question.

      “Ms. Garnett, you must answer.”

She glanced at the judge who nodded and swept his hand through the air for her to get on with her answer.

Greg asked again, “And is it correct you oversaw the money exchange between Mr. Cavalli and Samuel Allen?”

“Yes.” Her gaze flicked to Sam. His glare gave threats his voice hadn’t. The smirk on his face matched the one he wore when he shoved the revolver into her hand after he shot and killed Pino Cavalli. From this day forward her life would change forever. She might as well walk out of the courtroom and grab a shovel if things didn’t go to plan. To plan? Her disappearance was the plan.

Tressa peered at the salt-and-pepper-haired man sitting two rows from the back of the courtroom. Her godfather, Jerry Waterford, had become her lifeline. Could her heart take the agony of losing her family when she disappeared without a trace with a new name and identity? She choked back tears. Jerry gave a subtle nod.

Now, the tissues in her hand matched her torn emotions. Her life hung in a balance somewhere in the middle of living and dying.

Greg tapped on the railing around the witness stand. His eyes softened. “And were you in the warehouse when Mr. Cavalli was shot?”

A bullet to Pino’s head had taken his life instantly. Her gaze moved to the two men behind Sam. If she said yes, would they be the ones to hunt her down?

“Ms. Garnett, I must remind you that you’re under oath and need to answer the question. Were you in the warehouse—”

“I heard you. Yes.” If Greg Stone said those words one more time, she might claw his eyes out. He picked up a handgun in a clear evidence bag. Yesterday he seemed like a friendly middle-aged man, and her way out of this hellish situation, but today while bullying her on the stand, he reminded her of an ogre.

His gaze settled upon her. “Your fingerprints are on this weapon along with Mr. Allen’s. Tell us how your fingerprints got on this weapon.”

She pointed at Sam. “Him. He stuck the revolver into my hand after he shot Mr. Cavalli.” She took a deep breath and slowly released air through barely parted lips as the defense attorney protested. “Let the record show Ms. Garnett pointed to Samuel Allen.” Greg paced across the room and back to the witness stand.

Tressa breathed deeply. She wanted to pass out and when she came to, she’d learn it’d all been a dream. She focused on the prosecuting attorney, afraid if she glanced at Sam his glare might somehow cause her to explode.

“Who shot Mr. Cavalli?” asked Greg Stone.

God, can this be over? Sam had told Pino’s men he gave the money to her accomplice, further blaming the extortion on her. Now she had two enemies. She had no damn accomplice. All she did was learn the truth. Without hesitation or remorse, she pointed to Sam. “Mr. Allen.” The two men behind him both shifted in their seats, and Sam looked over his shoulder.

The courtroom broke out into an uproar while the judge beat the gavel at least ten times, or maybe it was three. She covered her ears to ward off the noise. Tressa lowered her eyes to her lap while tears left stains on her navy-blue silk blouse.

      “Thank you, Ms. Garnett.”

Her gaze settled on Melinda Richards who sat next to her godfather. She left the courtroom.

The judge pounded the gavel one more time. “Are there any other questions?” He directed his gaze to the defense attorney who gave no rebuttal, nor did he cross-examine her. The judge gave her permission to return to her seat. Upon sitting, her mom leaned over her dad to pat her hand.

      ***

After court, Jerry and two sheriff’s deputies swept Tressa out of the courtroom to a conference room to wait for the crowd to diminish. Soon after, Jerry and Melinda took her and her family back to the suite at a V.I.P. hotel on the outskirts of town. He didn’t want her to return to the courtroom for the verdict, so he demanded they leave the courthouse.

Tressa paced while wringing her hands. “Jerry, I have to be there.”

“I don’t advise it. Tressa, you must cooperate. For this plan to work, you have to trust me.”

“I know. Waiting to see where my life is headed is damn hard.” The prosecutor hadn’t expected the jury to take long. Her mom sat on one side, her dad on the other. Her younger sister, Charlotte, sat across from her. “You did the right thing, sis.”
Memories flooded her mind. Sam had wined and dined her, fed her fancy meals, took her on trips until the last weekend together. She had no way of knowing that he knew she’d only gone along with him to uncover more information. She had agreed to the weekend away, but she’d ended up with the ultimate betrayal against her.

What’s This Book About? I’m so glad you asked!

Mary J McCoy-Dressel, Bull Rider Series, Christmas at Love House bk 3

Four years later, Velia and Caulder finish up another year of bull riding. They settle into their comfy abode in the snowy Allegheny Mountains to celebrate the Christmas season with a houseful of guests. La vita e bella! But why does their happily-ever-after have to come with an expiration date? Without warning, their most chilling nightmare comes true. An innocent misunderstanding, and a startling realization discovered too late—puts their contented little family at risk.

On top of everything else, watching a new love bloom between two of the McCutchen guests, isn’t part of their agenda. Reece “Foley” Wilson, a former teammate, comes into contact with Velia’s cousin at the last show of the season and again while visiting for the holiday. Grown up and feisty, Natale Valente-Armano fell in love with this cowboy as a lovesick teen. Now, life has changed for both of them. How will they handle the unfamiliar thoughts and urges overtaking them? And, how will la famiglia respond to this unexpected romance?

A little Christmas magic will be a welcome guest at Love House, but regardless if it arrives or not…during this bittersweet interlude—Velia and Caulder dare their happily-ever-after to be anything less than, “forever.”

    • Nuts! Bad Blog Mom

      Posted at 2:29 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on May 3, 2015

      Hey There!

Have I been going nuts or what? Sure, I’ve had to ask myself that question. Why?

nutsI’ve had this cowboy aka soldier living in my head for months now. At times he thought HE was the boss, and other times he let me have my way. Occasionally, he needed to be smacked, but other times only a hug would do. He’s been shot at, nearly blown up, out of control, in control, had his heart ripped out, has been doubtful yet confident, angered, but more importantly–loved.

Trust me, the heroine in this book has needed a lot of support from her author, too.

      • Cover reveal coming soon. I can’t wait to share.
      • First round of edits are done, except for tweaking a few things before it goes back to 649781q0vhzgr6l0_thumb.jpgthe editor.
      • Still hopeful about a late spring release. I appreciate your patience if you’re waiting for this one.

      But…

There’s always a “but,” isn’t there? He isn’t the only cowboy swimming around in my head. As if I had nothing else to do, I began to revise another book that is already published. That was a crazy thing to do you might say. Maybe. I had to update back matter so heck, why not go a little further. Okay, a lot further. I’m still not finished.

      More Cowboys…

Would you believe two more are in there too? I must have a lot of empty space for all these characters to be floating around in my head. The hero for book four in my ranch series has squeezed himself right in there with the others. I wonder if anyone has a clue who he is yet. I left a big hint in Tristan’s Destiny Book 1.5. I can’t give anything away though.

Maybe you think that’s all the cowboys I think about. Wrong! I have also started writing a third book in the Bull Rider Series. A holiday with Velia and Caulder and then some. You know how family oriented they all are, so they’ll be visited by a few others because after all, I write books with strong family ties. ChristmasBanner

      Website?

You may have noticed my home page has changed. That’s because I have left my other website, and don’t get me going on the host for that site because I’m not happy with them. I transferred my domain name to my blog here, which is now going to be my website. Still following me? Eventually, I’ll go through another change but I will still be right here.

Speaking of website, have you noticed my new Author Brand Logo? Thanks to Dawné Dominique at DuskTiDawn Designs for creating it for me. Get used to seeing it around.

      There’s More…

I’ll be moving so that is on my mind as well. Before moving, I will be umoving boxesnpacking “junk” from my last move so I don’t have to re-move anything that is, well, “junk.” Do any of you know how to add extra hours to a day? Please let me know if you do.

I have no idea where I’ll end up. Literally.

      So…

Is all this excuse enough for you to forgive me for not being around my blog? I apologize for being a bad “Blog Mom” these past few months, but when these heroes start running around my brain demanding their own stories, I kind of let them take over for a time. Hah! I haven’t even mentioned the heroines who demand equal time, too. In reality, this is a good thing…

I blame my sexy innocent muse. I’m so very thankful for her…

      Posted at 2:05 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on December 7, 2013

Publication has been delayed until Early February 2014.

Last week I mentioned a new book cover would be made for Cowboy Boss and his Destiny. Dawné Dominique finished it the same weekend. I’ve also tweaked the blurb which can be found on the Cowboy Boss and his Destiny page. This isn’t an official cover reveal because I’ve already done that with the first cover, but I do want to show it off. For information on why I’ve changed covers, feel free to go to a previous post where I talked about it. More info about the books in this series is there, too.

More News: The final edits are finished on this book. Expect it to be released in early January 2014. All three books in this series will be published in 2014. I’m excited.

Sensual Contemporary Western Romance ~ Books in the Double Dutch Ranch Series: Love at First Sight are lighter in content—and these books are written in the romance genre without the drama of my books written under my blend of romance/women’s fiction.

Here’s the new cover. The same as the old one, but different. 🙂

Her funds are running low, and work in this little town isn’t easy to come by. An ad for an assistant at a local ranching magazine draws her attention. When she schedules an appointment with the rancher, she never dreamed a delay on the way to the interview would turn into a coincidental meeting with her destiny—

Tristan Carlson does the best he can to raise his four-year-old daughter on his own.Thankfully, his mother remains on the Double Dutch to lend a hand—giving him the ability to maintain the ranch, tend to his horses, and keep up his small-time ranching magazine. But, when his assistant quits without warning, he needs to replace her in a hurry. Not an easy feat in a small town like Canyon Junction—until he learns how chance meetings can bring unexpected gifts.

    • Cover Reveal! On the 12th Date of Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett

      Posted at 9:09 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on October 2, 2013

You might remember earlier this year I did a cover reveal for Nikki Lynn Barrett and her book “Love and Music in Texas, Book One”. Well, she’s back and today I’m helping Nikki reveal the cover to her new book “On the 12th Date of Christmas”

On The 12th Date of Christmas Cover Reveal

      By Nikki Lynn Barrett

      Contemporary holiday romance

Expected release date: November 8, 2013

      AmazonBLURB:

After being mugged, Robin Sorenson is left shaken and her spirit in humanity broken. Worse, she’s not sure how to deal with the new anxieties or who to confide in since she’s always preached to pick oneself up and move on. Yeah, she’s been the go to girl when anyone’s had problems.
Christmas is coming, and her belief in magic and miracles has faded.

      Then Jonas comes back.

Jonas Aimes made a mistake. A big one, when he walked away from Robin a year earlier. He’d loved her, always had and still does, but his desire to please his aging and strict parents took precedence. Back from the overseas internship they’d struggled to get him in, he plans on winning Robin back. What he didn’t count on was discovering the shell of the vivacious woman he’d loved.

      Broken.

Remembering her love of Christmas, Jonas pulls the holiday heartstrings. What? All is fair and love and war. Right?

      Twelve days, Twelve Dates.

Robin is speechless when Jonas not only refuses to leave her alone, but dares her to accept his cheesy holiday themed challenge. Twelve dates to give him a chance to prove he loves her and is never leaving her again.

But in the season known for miracles can Robin find the magic needed to open her heart and faith once more…or will she forever wonder about the ghost of the Christmas past that could have been?

      EXCERPT:

Jonas walked up the steps and rang the doorbell. He heard the sound of the kids laughing and playing inside. A few seconds later, the door opened and there stood Jacob, with the kids behind him.

“Hey there. Come on in. Robin’s just about ready.” Jacob opened the door for him and stepped back to let him in.

“Thanks.” Jonas stepped inside, thankful for the warmth.

Ben waved at him. “Are you taking Miss Robin to have fun?”

“I sure am. I hope that’s okay with you!” Jonas bent down to give him a high five.

“Only if you’re nice to her. She’s my favorite baby sitter.” Ben said seriously.

“Hey, what about your grandma?” Jacob teased.

“I love Grandma, too! But Miss Robin was our baby sitter for a long time before she came to live with us.” Ben laughed.

“Oh I’m your favorite, huh Ben?”  At the sound of Robin’s voice, Jonas stood to his full height and he swept his gaze over her. Clad in a pair of blue jeans and a purple knit sweater, she looked good. Not as tired, and she sent him a smile when her gaze locked on him.

“I have lots of favorites.” Ben admitted.

“I bet you do. Well, you’re my favorite little boy!” She reached out to tickle his side as she passed by him.

“No tickling!” Ben squealed, bouncing away from her.

“You win. No tickling.” Robin smiled.

      “Good, I win, I win!”

“For now.” Robin winked. “I will plan my tickle attack for later!” She curled her fingers and wiggled them at Ben. He shrieked and ran the other way. She laughed.

Jonas loved her laugh. He hadn’t heard much of it lately. Her laugh was just another on the list of things he missed about her.

“What is with all this shouting about going on?” Cheyenne’s voice drifted from the hallway as she walked into the living room. She smiled at everyone. “Hey Jonas. You two have a good time tonight.”

“I’ll do my best to ensure that happens.” He held his hand out to Robin.

“You bring her back by midnight, you hear?” Jacob teased, the corners of his lips twitching.

“Jake! Quit that.” Cheyenne giggled, wrapping her arm around him.

Robin laughed. “I am not your practice for when Desiree dates, Jacob. Nice try.” She shot Jonas a grin. “Maybe we’d better get out of here before I become more of a guinea pig.”

“Hey, at least I didn’t pull a Rodney Atkins or something, you know that song, don’t you?” Jacob smirked.

“Okay, that’s it. We’re out of here!” Robin tugged on Jonas’s hand. “He’s relentless!”

      “Wait what song?” Jonas laughed.

“No, it doesn’t matter!” Robin edged toward the door, wagging her finger at Jacob. “You are terrible.” She tossed at him with a grin.

      Baby Stetson

Love and Music in Texas, Book One

In small Texas towns, strangers come and go…

Left in a Stetson hat, on the steps of the local bed and breakfast, Avery Callimer came into the world on a wing and a prayer. Raised by loving adoptive parents, she’s never lacked for love…only the knowledge of her past.

By day she works the Inn, but by night…Avery comes alive as lead singer in a band. Life was good…stable, until new guests blew into town.

Some strangers come with secrets and lies.

Lucas Bennett is one such stranger. Drifting from one mess to another has left him jaded. Doesn’t matter the dramas are never his doing. Giving it one last shot to make a fresh start lands him Harmony’s Echo, Texas and smack dab in front of the tantalizing Avery.

Despite his best efforts to ignore the burn Avery’s ignited within, he’s intent to keep his distance. Secrets have followed him. Secrets he doesn’t want Avery to know.

Each time they’re near the other things heat up like a brushfire on a dry Texas prairie.

But maybe, after the dust settles and the smoke clears, love can bloom with a fresh start.
