#Novellines Excerpt from Cowboy Boss and his Destiny #WesternRomance

Tristan ran his fingers up and down her arm, taking a moment to squeeze her neck in a firm massage.

“Your fingers are magical. For sure I’ll be sore tomorrow after that ride. I’ll have to soak in the hot tub. Come in with me Sunday?”

      “Yeah, sure. No problem.”

“You didn’t have to think about that much, did you?”

Tristan grinned. “Nope. Not if I get to see you in a bathing suit again. You have a hot body. You must work out a lot.” His fingers lingered against the side of her neck. She peered at him and his heart softened.

“I don’t work out much.” Her eyes raked over him. “You with those abs!”

“I work my ass off around here, even grab extra bales of hay when it’s delivered. I’m glad it shows.” He stood and took her hand, hauling her up. “I know some time tonight I have to let you go to bed, but holding you feels too damn good inside.”

“I like having you around to hold me.”

“You got it, sweetie. Let’s get inside, but I have to put the fire out first. The one in the fire pit, and mine.” He extinguished the fire and they gathered the pizza box, plates, and beer cans. Tristan turned to her as he held the door open on the way in. “Let’s fall asleep on the sofa together. Fully clothed so you don’t have to freak. I need to hold ya all night.”

Nora sat the items on the island in the kitchen and tossed the pizza box and paper plates to the trash. She turned to him when he sat the beer cans down. “Will your wild man pop out again if you share the sofa with me? I’d like your arms around me all night, cowboy, but…you know.”

“Oh, Nora, if anything pops…never mind.” Tristan lifted her into his arms and headed for the family room, shoving the door closed when he entered. He dropped her to the sofa, wrenched her beside him when he sat, and grabbed the remote…

      Having No Sexy ~ @MySexySaturday #Saturday7 #MSSWeek40 #MySexySaturday

      <><><><>

The “theme” this week from the My Sexy Saturday blog hop page: What happens when we’re having no sexy? When our characters are too tired, too ill or just not in the mood. We realized even though we talk about the sexy and doing the sexy and everything sexy, sometimes that just doesn’t enter the picture. Sometimes it is truly about the love between two people when the sexy fails them for some reason. One of the best songs ever to represent this stance has to be from the movie Notting Hill called When You Say Nothing At All. Follow the Link below to visit other participants.

Seven paragraphs from Cowboy Boss and his Destiny

Mary J McCoy-Dressel, western romance, website

This isn’t really a set-up, but sometimes a man has to do what he has to do.

Grabbing his keys from the table, he hurried to his truck, started it and took off down the dirt driveway—turning right onto the first road, onward to U.S. 60. He struggled to keep it at the speed limit. For the second time tonight, he turned down her road but this time he didn’t spin around to go back the other way. Pulling up in front of her townhouse, he revved the engine before turning it off.

Tristan peered into the mirror, took cologne from the console and slapped on a small amount. He plopped his hat on. At her door, he took a deep breath and knocked hard. A light came on inside, and his heart sprinted. She opened the door—messy hair and rubbing her eyes.

“Remember I said I was a man of my word?”

She removed his hat. “Get in here.” She crashed into his arms.

Yeah, just want I needed. He lifted her, and her legs went around his waist, exciting him beyond comprehension. He kicked the door shut and took her lips in an ardent kiss on the way to the bedroom, plopped down on the bed, and lay beside her. “Let me lie with you. That’s all I want right now,” he whispered breathlessly.

“Yes,” she said, snuggling beside him.

He stretched out along side of her, one leg hooked over hers. He tightened his arms around her until he absorbed her warmth, scent, her passion. Tristan closed his eyes, and slept.

      Thank you for reading.

      1. He’s lived on the Double Dutch Ranch for ten years.

“I’ve been here ten.” He guided her toward the barn. “I’ll fill ya in about it later. I gotta get to work.”

       2. Tristan’s dad taught him ranching.

      3. His horse is a black mustang.

“He’s a rescue horse and we make a great team.”

He snapped his gaze to her. “I live with my mother.”

      9. He barely gets enough sleep.calendar

Trying to make sense out of his calendar, she wondered when he took time for himself. His time frame for working on the magazine and ranch filled nearly the whole day, and he needed to pencil in time for sleeping. “He’ll burn out early at this rate.”

       10. Tristan hired Nora Trinity to assist with the ranching magazine to give him time to work the ranch.

      13. When he loves— image.png

“When I love, I love with everything within me.”

Seeing him with his child, this was obvious. Did he mean…yes, he meant exactly what he said, and it was like he wanted her to know it went much deeper than only with his child. That whatever he loved, he loved with everything inside of him. “I sense that about you, Tristan. Your actions and words are heartfelt.”

Living the good life in a big city for many years, Nora Trinity ends up a statistic after the magazine she works for makes cutbacks. Despite a family betrayal from her past that still needs mending, she moves back home to the small town of Canyon Junction, Arizona, with forgiveness on her mind. When she is hired by a local rancher to help with his ranching magazine, she finds herself profoundly attracted to him, and the feeling is mutual. The thing is, her sexy boss comes as a package deal, and his little girl is immediately drawn to her. It’s not just about two hearts taking a chance now—or two people falling in love… Nora has to be sure of what she wants before she takes on the cowboy and his child.

Tristan Carlson does the best he can to raise his four-year-old daughter on his own. His mother remains on the Double Dutch to lend a hand—giving him the ability to maintain the ranch, tend to his horses, and keep up his small-time ranching magazine. His attractive, new assistant is everything he wants in a woman, including her ginger-red hair. He finds it hard to keep her out of his arms—especially since she doesn’t mind being in his embrace. But from his experience with women lately, he’s learned that some don’t want a ready-made family. This one seems different, and he’s falling hard. But, there’s his little blue-eyed girl, and he’ll protect Destiny’s heart with everything within him. Until he knows for sure…

    • Don’t You Get It? ~ My Sexy Saturday

      Posted at 12:28 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on February 1, 2014

Hello! I’m back. I’ve been away from my blog and My Sexy Saturday. Today I have something that fits the theme for this thirty-fourth week. Not my thirty-fourth week though.

Click the Banner to go to My Sexy Saturday Blog Hop Blog Site

This week we’re talking about those broken heroes and heroines who think they have nothing left to give to another person. They’ve stopped looking for their soul mates or don’t believe they even have one. They are truly surprised when someone falls for them.

I bring you seven paragraphs from a work in progress. This happens to be the second book in the Double Dutch Ranch Series: Love at First sight. You’ll meet Jase Carlson in the first book ~ Cowboy Boss and his Destiny ~ Book two is Jase’s story.

Falling for someone can be difficult when you think your heart isn’t ready. Brenna has fallen hard for Jase Carlson. Jase on the other hand, is having a hard time with letting go of his heartache.

      Excerpt:

Mary J McCoy-Dressel, western romance, heartbreak's rewardHis words said something different than his eyes, actions, and kisses. He attempted to hide a longing. If she looked real hard, it was easy to find. “I’m not asking for anything, Jase. We barely know each other.” Still, she had a longing for him, barely knowing each other or not. “Everybody needs a friend.” Jase brought her hand to his lips again, but this time he touched the tip of his tongue against her knuckle then licked his lips as if tasting her.

Jase moved closer. “You wanna be friends with me, Brenna?”

Why’s he doing this? “Yes, if it means spending time with you. I think you’re worth getting to know. You’ve been broken and maybe forgot what it was like to…have another woman care for you.” He grasped her behind the neck with both hands and pulled her forward meeting her half way. He kissed her roughly, his lips devouring, his tongue parting her lips. She gave it all right back.

Reaching around, she laced her fingers through the long hair at the back of his neck. Brenna eased her hand over his shoulder and down his arm, wrapping her fingers as much around his bicep as she could. Jase pulled away as fast as he had kissed her, leaving her breathless and wanting more.

He narrowed his eyes. “You wanna be friends with that? I can’t resist kissing you. That’s not how a friend kisses a friend.” Jase took her face between both of his hands, moved an inch closer. “Don’t you get it? I’m not looking for a partner, but you had to do this.”

Brenna took hold of his wrists, pulled his hands from her face, and moved back. “It’s time I go home.” She stood and took her glass into the kitchen. This had taken a different turn. Jase remained sitting on the patio. What a fine mess this was. She needed to get home yet there he sat. Pacing in the kitchen, she thought about what he said. His kisses burned, not only her lips. Something about him sucked her in but plainly he wasn’t ready. It was time to get back to business. She padded to the doorway and exited. “Jase, will you drive me home?”

I’ve also tweaked the blurb which can be found on the Double Dutch Ranch Series page. This isn’t an official cover reveal because I’ve already done that with the first covers, but I do want to show it off.

Update: In 2023, five books are published to date. Book six is coming in 2023.

Here’s the new third cover this book has had as of 2023.

      SEVEN Paragraphs (Maybe Eight)

      Cowboy Boss and his Destiny

This scene didn’t make the cut. I removed it in my final revision. Consider it a deleted scene.

      Set-up. Anticipation.

Nora wrapped one arm around his neck, seeking his lovely mouth, caressing and moving her fingertips over him.

“Mmmm, what are trying to do, baby?”

“Distract you. How can we take the chance again?”

“Do you think I’d let that go undone a second time?” He lifted her to the bed and reached into his jeans pocket.

“Shh, listen,” said Nora. “Someone’s knocking…” She grabbed the blanket to cover herself.

“Just a sec.” Tristan hurried into his Levi’s. “Who is it?”

      “Me,” said a tiny voice.

“I’ll be right there.” Glancing at Nora, he pulled a t-shirt over his head, leaned down and kissed her. “I’ll be back.” He unlocked the door and went into the hallway to tend to his daughter’s needs.

Seven paragraphs from my upcoming release.

      Cowboy Boss and his Destiny

Double Dutch Ranch Series: (Love at First Sight #1)

      Set-Up:

As the series title says, Love at First Sight. Tristan and Nora continue to explore their relationship.  After a long day at the ranch office, Nora needs to relax. She changes into her bathing suit and heads to the hot-tub alone near the pool at her townhouse. Heated thoughts of Tristan reminds her of how she feels for him. But, it appears he came for an unexpected visit…

      Seven paragraphs:

Mary J McCoy-Dressel, western romance, websiteTristan waited, still offering his hand. When she stood, his gaze raked over her. “Wow, you’ve been hiding that under your clothes?”

Nora couldn’t speak, still in shock of seeing him here, but her insides heated hotter than the water in the hot tub. This man brought out a part of her she didn’t recognize. “What are you hiding under yours?”

“You best get out of there now.” One tug on her arm brought her wet body against him.

She placed her palms against his chest. “I’m dripping and now making you all wet.” Her voice came out lower, sexier than she had intended.

“Darlin’ don’t go there with me. You have no idea.” Tristan hooked his arm around her waist, leaned into her, trailing kisses across her temple. Chills ran rampant and not from standing there wet. His tongue stroked her ear before he whispered, “My aim is to make you wet.”

Consumed with desire for this man, she could melt on the spot. Nora slipped her hands around his neck, bringing his face close to hers. She captured his lips in a sensual kiss, hovering over his mouth between breaths. “Why are you here?” If her voice was any lower he’d be reading her mind.

“You know why,” he whispered in return. “Because I’m a man of my word, I told you. Tonight when I opened my drawer, I didn’t close it empty handed like last time.” He pulled her tighter against him. “Get your things and let’s go before we make a scene right here.”

      BLURB

Nora Trinity has been gone for many years, living the good life in a big city—far away from the home she couldn’t wait to leave. When she loses her job due to cutbacks, she finds her way back home to Canyon Junction, Arizona, despite a family betrayal in her past that still needs mending. Her funds are running low, and work in this little town isn’t easy to come by. An ad for an assistant at a local ranching magazine draws her attention. When she schedules an appointment with the rancher, she never dreamed a delay on the way to the interview would turn into a coincidental meeting with her destiny—

Tristan Carlson does the best he can to raise his four-year-old daughter on his own.Thankfully, his mother remains on the Double Dutch to lend a hand—giving him the ability to maintain the ranch, tend to his horses, and keep up his small-time ranching magazine. But, when his assistant quits without warning, he needs to replace her in a hurry. Not an easy feat in a small town like Canyon Junction—until he learns how chance meetings can bring unexpected gifts.

Maybe it was love at first sight…maybe fate—the way he tips his hat, or a little girl with big blue eyes. Either way, Nora Trinity finds a life she never expects in her Cowboy Boss and his Destiny.
