    • Day 24 Bloganuary: Dreaming Dreams

      Posted at 5:47 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on January 24, 2022

Our Bloganuary prompt for today is:

Write about a dream you remember.

This prompt can be taken a few different ways. To actually dream while you’re sleeping, a daydream, or a dream come true. Hmm. What does Merriam-Webster say?

Some memories of dreams while sleeping escape me when I wake. If it’s a dream about a writing idea, and I wake right up, I write it down.

Common dreams have me running away from or toward something and stumbling and falling. Or the falling off a cliff kind of falling. Fearful dreams because I’m running to get help or trying to call an emergency number. I rarely reach the phone or get the help needed for whatever my subconscious mind thinks I need. Sometimes someone is preventing me from running. You’d think I write horror with such dreams!

Other dreams are with the similar fearful energies where I need help for myself or someone else, but my voice freezes. This happened again two nights ago. I can’t remember the dream, but I had to sound threatening. Other people were in the dream and near me, but I don’t know who, why, or what they were doing, but it wasn’t good…

Over and over I tried to yell, but my words barely came out and when they did, they couldn’t be understood because of my fear. I remember trying, trying, trying to get sensible words out, and finally, I yelled, “GO! GET OUT” as loud as I could… In reality.

      I woke myself up!

I know others have dreams of running or falling, too. Please tell me I’m not the only one who screams out in the night. I have heard one of my boys yell out in his sleep before.

So, there’s my Day 24 response to a dream or dreams I “sort of” remember. Have a good one, folks!

      Pleasant dreams.

    • Tuesday Inspiration for the Muse: Fear

      Posted at 9:51 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on June 26, 2018
Mary J McCoy-Dressel, Western Romance Author Blog Post Tuesday Inspiration

Thought I’d share this image and note of inspiration with you all today.

*Let your dreams be bigger than your fears.

In my opinion, fear steals from us. It does steal strength from me. There are fears I don’t mention, and sometimes they do stand in the way of moving forward to make some of my dreams come true. Regardless, I do my best to keep fear away from my creativity. Otherwise, I might never create. (Remember, my muse carries a lariat and knows how to use it.)

Fear can be inspiring, especially if you’re a stubborn soul like me, so yes, sometimes it drives me. Sometimes it keeps me safe.

There are times when fear is good. It must keep its watchful place at the heart’s controls. ~Aeschylus

Do you let some fears stand in your way? Am I alone in this?

There are other fears I overcome like when I’m ready to publish a book. Fear and nerves rule me for a few days before and up to the day of publication when I hit publish with a shaky finger.

Authors and other creatives, do you feel the nerves and maybe a tinge of fear of what happens after your baby goes out into the world?

Oh, there are other fears I can accept. Let’s use “change.” I know I need change in my life and have learned to deal with what comes. That doesn’t mean I always like it, but I accept. Deal. Live with it. Albeit, I’ve had plenty of major changes in the past decade. Well, longer than a decade to teach me this.

How about you? Do you think about change or take the “whatever happens, happens” path?

“Let your dreams be BIGGER than your fears.”

Is it safe to say this is easier said than done? However, I believe it’s a great goal to work toward and consciously strive to let our dreams be bigger than our fears.

*I’m unsure who to credit for the quote. I’ve found a longer version of this quote with two different names as the author and also as “unknown.” I’ll leave it as it is for now. If someone knows who wrote it, please let me know.

      Enjoy your summer!

The word “again” is in my title…  I’ve reblogged the post before, and I even reblogged the Reblog. Yes, I’m rolling my eyes at myself. Why do it again? I’ve had many new followers since 2011 when the post had been written, and new followers since 2013 when I decided to repost. I’ve lost the ability to reblog the post again, so I have to link to it. My writing has changed and improved so much since I wrote the post, which makes me proud to know I’m still learning. https://maryjdresselbooks.com/2011/08/02/inspiration-from-long-ago/

This is inspiring to me because I had someone else tell me at the mere age of thirteen what I had known all along. “You should be a writer.” Those of you who have been around here since 2011 or even 2013, you’ve seen this, so I apologize for talking about and linking to this post yet again. But to this day I give thanks to my seventh grade language arts teacher. I realize this post is more inspiring to me than you, but since it’s Tuesday and time for Tuesday Inspiration for the Muse, this is what I’m posting today. On a side note, thanks to all of you who have stuck around since 2011.

Do you remember who or what inspired you to follow your dreams?

      Thank you for reading.
