      Short Snippet from my new Release!

      Well, hello I haven’t done Book Hooks for a long time.

      Join me and the other authors at Marketing For Romance Writers Blog who would like to hook you on their book with only a few lines… Since I have a brand NEW RELEASE, I’m posting more than a few lines from:

      Double Dutch Ranch Series: Love at First Sight #4

      Lassoing the Last Dance

      She’s too proud to ask him to change his life for her. He’s too stubborn to let her give up.

      Set Up: Roxanne recently returned to Canyon Junction. She and her best friend, Nora, are having a discussion before getting out of Nora’s truck. Nora is planning a get-together. Modified from the original.

      “While you’re at it, drop the hint we don’t want Randy there.”

      “No, Roxy, you’re the one who doesn’t want Randy there. We all like him. He’s a nice guy. How soon you forget how you lost your mind the day you met him.”

      It was true, and she’d lose her senses upon seeing him again if she allowed it. His longer ebony hair, those damn eyes. Roxanne chuckled to herself. Upon meeting him, she had visualized his eyes as blue, but they couldn’t be further from blue. How did she make such a mistake—missing those sexy brown, long-lashed orbs? She had been blinded to his handsome face, that’s how. “I admit he’s a nice guy. I never said he wasn’t. You aren’t making it any easier.”

      “I don’t intend to, either. I saw the way you two were with each other, and how content you looked around him.”

      “The past.” Roxanne held Nora’s sleeve, and her eyes misted. “I mean it. The past. Nothing is the same. Please let it go. I’m destined to be alone now.”

      End

      About

      Savvy horse trainer Randy Drake never loved a woman like he loved Roxanne, but after more than a year of a long-distance relationship, she cut off communication without explanation and broke his heart. Now she’s moved back to Canyon Junction without telling him, proof she’s not interested. But his stubborn heart can’t seem to let go.

      Professional dancer Roxanne Connor has a good reason for not letting Randy know she’s back. An accident nearly destroyed her, and she’s not the same person Randy knew. Avoiding him, she chooses to live in a self-appointed exile, if she can ignore the craving for his touch and the memory of his kisses.

      But secrets in a small town are never truly safe. When Randy learns the reason Roxanne cold-shouldered him, he’s willing to give their love another try, but someone else is determined to keep them apart. Will their rekindled love be strong enough to withstand the obstacles mounting against them, or will the embers that glowed in their past grow cold under the pressure?

    • Heartbreak’s Reward Deleted Scene Teaser

      Posted at 5:06 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on September 6, 2014

      It’s only days away until the release of Heartbreak’s Reward. RELEASED and available.

      I thought I’d come in with a teaser. You won’t find this in the book though. This is a deleted scene. My own heart bleeds for this heartbroken cowboy. If you’ve read Cowboy Boss, you know the details that led up to this. Otherwise, it’s self-explanatory. This book can be read on its own.

      <>

      Jase Carlson rolled in with the empty horse trailer at 2:30 a.m., unhooked it, and took a stroll through the barn to check on the horses, maybe hand out a cookie or two. Before exiting, he patted his horse then gave him a cookie. He dragged himself into the house, tired, worn out, driving longer than he should have. Dropping into a chair at the table in the kitchen, he removed his dusty boots. He grabbed a beer, and set it on the table in the living room to regroup for a few minutes before going to bed.

      He went down the hall to kiss his kids goodnight. Turning the knob, he slowly opened the door to Joey’s bedroom. “What the hell?” He flipped the light on then ran down the hall to Jaelle’s room. Everything was gone. “She took my kids!” He burst through his bedroom door. Rebecca’s closet was empty. He pulled open dresser drawers. Nothing.

      Venturing through the rest of the house, the only things gone were the kid’s toy boxes and their bedroom furnishings, some items from the bathroom, food from the cupboards. He opened the door to the back—her car sat there. “She didn’t take her damn car?” He stumbled back against the wall. What hell did they go through when she took them? What did she tell them?

      Jase grabbed hold of his head with both hands. “Dammit!” He slammed his palms against the hallway 0013 smaller website textwall to hold up his quivering body, lowering his head and pushing in and out, torn to bits in an instant. Sonofabitch! No… He backed into the opposite wall and dropped to the floor, his face going into his hands. My angel’s gone. My boy…

      After he quit shaking, he dialed his brother’s phone. “My kids are gone. She took them, Tristan.” And he hung up.

    • Sneak Peek Excerpt: Heartbreak’s Reward, Book 2

      Posted at 11:46 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on August 13, 2014

      HeartbreaksReward_LRG#WesternRomance #MFRWAuthor #SneakPeek

      You are not imagining things. Mary is actually writing a blog post. I’m sorry it has been so long. Hope you’re still around to read this sneak peek into Heartbreak’s Reward. I don’t talk much about Jase and Brenna, the hero and heroine here. Of course, Jase is introduced in Cowboy Boss and his Destiny, but I’m writing this as a standalone book—same as Cowboy Boss.

      Double Dutch ranch series: love at first sight #2 Peek

      Set-up: Brenna is new in town. She’s been having a hard time finding her way around.

      Here we go:

      Brenna no sooner got near the entrance and the tall cowboy came out through the door. His face lit with a big smile. “Wow, good timing,” she said.

      Jase gave her a nod. “Hi there, Brenna Page. I see you made it all on your own.”

      “I didn’t know you came here, too.”

      “It’s closest to the ranch.”

      “Thank you for the directions. I loaded up my car so I need to get the food home to the fridge.” He looked so good, rugged, dirty, and all rolled into a handsome guy. She hadn’t noticed how white his teeth were last night. Maybe it was his tanned skin making them look that way. Either way, he was smoldering hot. The intense blue of his eyes just sparkled in the Arizona sunlight.

      “Yeah, me too, girl. I have a couple big steaks in here. Sure don’t want them to spoil.” He tilted his head toward his truck a couple rows over. “I have to get these home.”

      They walked beside each other until he turned off toward his vehicle. “I’ll see you later, Jase.”

      “Hey.”

      Brenna looked over her shoulder. “What is it?”

      He stood there, two paper bags in his arms, head cocked a bit, and he licked his lips. Hard to miss that. “Have lunch with me. I’ll run this home, you do the same.” He nodded across the highway. “There’s a place right over there. Good food. How about it?”

        ~*~

      Hmm, what does Brenna do next? Is she hungry…for lunch? *snicker*

      Hey, Cowboy, Bk #2 (Bull Rider Series)

      I can’t call this a WIP anymore. It will be on the way to the formatter shortly.

      No explanation needed…

      low resolutionBlurb

      Velia and Caulder are back in the compelling and emotional sequel to Howdy, Ma’am.

       In Hey, Cowboy, a break in the season finds Velia Armano and Caulder McCutchen back in Tucson, Arizona. Family, friends, and rowdy cowboys are brought together to share in their joy…and sometimes their pain.

      The last year with Caulder has given her trust and strength like she’s never known. But, her strength is weakened. Enemies harbor a vendetta against her and her family…and anyone who gets in their way.

      Caulder vows to protect Velia, yet little does he know the lengths he’ll have to go— He learns that sometimes a hero has to prove he is one.

      He’d like to give her the world, be the man she needs, but an injury during break threatens his career. How can he give her everything when his future hangs in the balance?

      All they ask for is a peaceful life together—and their happily ever after. Happiness is within reach if their burning love is strong enough to overcome enemies plotting against Velia’s family—and a possible career-ending injury for Caulder.

      Come along and see what happens when the feisty Italian takes a longer ride with the rowdy bull rider.

      Tristan ran his fingers up and down her arm, taking a moment to squeeze her neck in a firm massage.

      “Your fingers are magical. For sure I’ll be sore tomorrow after that ride. I’ll have to soak in the hot tub. Come in with me Sunday?”

      “Yeah, sure. No problem.”

      “You didn’t have to think about that much, did you?”

      Tristan grinned. “Nope. Not if I get to see you in a bathing suit again. You have a hot body. You must work out a lot.” His fingers lingered against the side of her neck. She peered at him and his heart softened.

      “I don’t work out much.” Her eyes raked over him. “You with those abs!”

      “I work my ass off around here, even grab extra bales of hay when it’s delivered. I’m glad it shows.” He stood and took her hand, hauling her up. “I know some time tonight I have to let you go to bed, but holding you feels too damn good inside.”

      “I like having you around to hold me.”

      “You got it, sweetie. Let’s get inside, but I have to put the fire out first. The one in the fire pit, and mine.” He extinguished the fire and they gathered the pizza box, plates, and beer cans. Tristan turned to her as he held the door open on the way in. “Let’s fall asleep on the sofa together. Fully clothed so you don’t have to freak. I need to hold ya all night.”

      Nora sat the items on the island in the kitchen and tossed the pizza box and paper plates to the trash. She turned to him when he sat the beer cans down. “Will your wild man pop out again if you share the sofa with me? I’d like your arms around me all night, cowboy, but…you know.”

      “Oh, Nora, if anything pops…never mind.” Tristan lifted her into his arms and headed for the family room, shoving the door closed when he entered. He dropped her to the sofa, wrenched her beside him when he sat, and grabbed the remote…

      Mary J McCoy-Dressel, Bull Rider Series new cover, western romance

      Today, I bring you seven sentences from Book #2 in the Bull Rider Series. A special moment is shared. Well, to Velia, there are many special moments with her cowboy. This one happens to be Thanksgiving Eve and they’re surrounded by family.

      EXCERPT

      Velia waited until Caulder took a seat on the sofa then sat beside him, snuggling close enough to feel his body heat. He handed her a glass of wine and grasped her hand, smoothing his thumb over her skin.

      His touch—special, warm, but more than a physical heat—internal, too. Something about his touch electrified her soul, brought her to life.00015

      She leaned against him and placed her head on his shoulder for a moment, inhaling a whiff of his cologne and the man-scent of him after a full day. A rousing crawled over her body, loving emotions taking over—oblivious to anyone else in the room…but him. When tomorrow rolled around, she’d have a lot to be thankful for.

      VisionsofEnchantment_SM.jpgGoodness! I had to dust off the cobwebs on this one. Today’s sexy seven comes from Visions of Enchantment a time-travel romance, book one in the Enchantment Series. The rights to this book have reverted back to me and I’ll be reissuing it sometime in the future. I keep getting distracted with writing about cowboys and their heroines.  I had planned on reissuing this earlier and had a cover made. This is the new one that will go up when I do get it published again.

      This excerpt is part of a dream Eryn has as she tries to put together the missing pieces of her life. Uriah…came through the confines of time to wait for her, and wait a little longer he must…until Eryn can remember him and their love. This dream gets her to thinking that maybe what he’s been telling her is true after all. I give you seven sentences. Wish it could have been more.

      ~~~
      The sun settled— glistening golden on the creek water. Uriah’s eyes were ablaze with lust when he straddled her thighs, laying her down beneath him. He tenderly placed sweet kisses against her cheek.
      Eryn gave an innocent smile and reached for him when  he peered into  her eyes—licking his lips in anticipation of what was to come. Pulling him closer, she arched her hips against him, yearning for a part of him she didn’t yet know. She pressed her lips softly against his while his fingers explored and caressed her womanly body. The sun dipped below the horizon, and in the velvet-purple twilight—a young lass became a woman and a lad became a man.
      Book #1 (Bull Rider Series)
      Book #1
      (Bull Rider Series)
      Oh, the dance. There’s something romantic and sexy about slow dancing. Holding someone close, inhaling their fragrance…bodies close. Today I chose seven paragraphs from my current release, Howdy, Ma’am Bk #1. Velia and Caulder have only known each other for a short time, but he understands the hell she’s been through. The attraction between them both is getting harder to deny. A sudden memory leaves her apprehensive…but a real hero comes to her rescue. I played the song, “One Day my Prince will Come”, over and over while writing this scene.
      “It’s hard to dance to this music. Not exactly what I’m used to,” she whispered, standing close enough to smell his cologne.
      Caulder spoke low. “Shh, close your eyes and follow my lead.”
      She succumbed to his embrace, resting her head against his chest, standing straighter to be nearer his shoulder. His scent enticed her closer, the same sultry fragrance he wore when they met. She closed her eyes and let him take her away in dance. She wanted to remain in this position, enjoyed being held. Could the others be right? She caught sight of her bare ring finger then straightened and moved her head from his shoulder. Although it was a good thing, and she wasn’t second-guessing anything, she still felt overwhelmed with the loss of a relationship. Albeit she had no love left for Justin, she mourned something. She couldn’t tell exactly what, but a feeling of loss lingered.
      “Everything okay?” Caulder held her tight around the waist and whispered close to her ear.
      “A sudden memory is all.” Velia leaned against him once again.
      “Have no fear tonight. Let me help you escape for a time.” He lowered his voice to a near whisper. “No ties, no bounds—one warm body to hold you on the dance floor is all. Enjoy it until it’s over.” Caulder squeezed her hand a little tighter and pulled her closer against him. “Let yourself go for now. Give yourself a sense of peace, even for a short time. I promise that’s all—let me show you some comfort…for tonight.”
      Velia relaxed when they played the next song— She let him hold and guide her in dance. He was right. No bindings, no ties, just a warm body to hold. She closed her eyes and held him tighter while they swayed to the music.
    • News, Updates, and NaNo 2012 Bites the Dust
      Posted at 8:58 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on December 3, 2012
      Winner-180x180Another year of NaNoWriMo bites the dust. This was my third win. I finished with 56,392 words. Since I was a rebel this year, I can take those words and add to my original manuscript for a total word count for Book Two in the Bull Rider Series of 73,060 total words. After major editing and revisions, I think this will still be longer than what I’d hoped for, but I won’t cross that bridge, yet. Sorry for the cliché. NaNoWriMo 2012 is over, and I’m done talking about the days and nights of literary abandon.
      Next
      Do you ever get burned out when you do so much of something, and you just want to take a break from it? I’m that way with marketing and promoting right now. Of all times, why does it have to be now when my book could be out very soon? Weird how Murphy’s Law comes into play. Maybe I should say— busy learning as much as I can about marketing and promoting. Tons of research, reading, visiting blogs, webinars, videos… The take-away-from-writing kind of research. Yeah, maybe break time is needed, for at least a couple days.
      More
      Even though this burned-out feeling has crept over me, I am excited about some future guest spots on blogs. I will do something similar here one day. I’ve hosted a few interviews with other people, but they’re tucked back in the archives. Yes, I’m looking forward to talking about my book.
      If you haven’t checked out my book page, there is a new blurb there. It’s kind of a long blurb, but my book is full length—okay—long. How can I create a short blurb for a long novel? (I do have a twenty-five word blurb) I cut almost a thousand words out of my novel before sending it back to my editor the last time. I wonder if she noticed. I wish I could post my editor’s first paragraph about my story in her last email. It almost made me swoon to see my story in someone else’s eyes. (Swoon is my new word, by the way. I have used it a lot lately.)
      For You
      For your pleasure, I will enclose a short excerpt from Howdy, Ma’am, Book One. Keep in mind this was edited, but in the final round, my editor might have suggested some changes that I haven’t seen, yet. Set up: My heroine is a photographer and is having dinner with her new, ahem, client…the bull riding hero. (Could he be the reason I use the word swoon?)
      <><>
      She saw innocence and shyness, but still something strong and sexy. His sexiness seemed natural and the strength had to come from hard work. There was so much she’d like to learn and know about him.
      She watched the hostess and female wait-staff examine his looks behind his back. She wondered if women at the shows did the same thing. Velia vowed to figure out this man and his personality, and how he fit into his world. If she did, she could capture it in her photos. Once she knew him, her photographs would be even better. She wanted to capture the real man, even the sexy part, but maybe she would keep some of those for herself.
      “Hello? Got your tongue wrapped up in a rope?”
      “Oh, no, I’m sorry.” Velia caught herself smiling while gazing into his eyes. “You caught me lost in my personal thoughts.”
      “I’d love to know what you were thinking with a smile so sensual on your face.”
      “Hmm, I give myself away too easily.” She dug into her salad when it arrived with her meal. “We’ll have to get to know each other better. I think you’ll like my photographs when we do.”
      “I hope to like them before we get to know each other because you’ll start right out on day one at the opening ceremony. It’ll be crazy and we’ll get through introductions and stats. People will be excited because the season is starting.”
      “Girls will be wishing to crawl all over you.”
      “Shucks, ma’am. They already want to. I can’t seem to shake it off. They want to get my attention any way they can. I’ve been flashed before getting on a bull. You have no idea.”
      “Should I be photographing those stunts as well?”
      “Sure, but keep those parts out of the public eye. I want some for myself.”
