    • The Common Elements Romance Project Launch Party #CommonElementsRomance

      Posted at 8:22 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on September 22, 2019

Yes, the subject line says it all! That’s the big secret collaboration I’ve been holding on to, but now it’s no longer a secret.

      The Common Elements Romance Project

I’ve posted some of this information in my newsletter, so if it’s familiar, that’s why.

Take a look at my new book info on their individual pages. Imprisoned in a Cowboy’s Heart, Book #1 in the Two-Five Ranch Outlaws series will be released October 3, 2019 along with my holiday romance novella, Secret Santa’s Rundown Sleigh, which isn’t connected to this project at all. It’s a standalone novella, but will release on the same day.

contemporary western romance, Mary J McCoy-Dressel, Two-Five Ranch Outlaws Book 1,

Pre-orders are up for both books, but all the links aren’t available yet. I’ve had so much to do, I didn’t get my books uploaded to Draft2Digital in time to get the links before the weekend, but I do have Amazon and Kobo so far.

The Common Elements Romance Project, Mary J McCoy-Dressel, Western romance

We’re using the hashtags: #CommonElementsRomance and #CommonElementsRomanceProject. You’ll be able to search for books and authors using this once we all get into the flow of using this. Or, search on book retailers using the project name.

Let me say that we all wrote our own individual books with different publishing dates from October to January. This is not an anthology or a boxed set.

First, a little about the project taken from The Common Elements Romance Project home page:

We’re over seventy romance authors who have come together to write stories that have just five things in common:

      • a lightning storm
      • lost keys
      • a haunted house (really haunted or rumored to be)
      • a stack of thick books
      • a person named Max (or short for something else)

Everything else is up to the individual authors.

It was so much fun to use the Five Common Elements in my book!

Our stories are NOT connected to each other or in the same “world,” so they can be read in any order. Some are shorter, some are epic, and some are in between. They run the gamut of romance sub-genres and heat levels, too, so there’s something here for everyone.

Publishing was originally to be in November, but you know, life gets in the way and authors are busy people. Some authors who write paranormal, wanted to publish in October for Halloween. Makes sense to me! So, our release months had been extended to accommodate all of us.

My hat goes off in praise to the author and coordinator of this project!

double dutch Ranch Series: Love at First Sight, Mary J McCoy-Dressel

Whatever Tomorrow Brings… Their only choice is acceptance.

Mary J McCoy-Dressel, western romanceEnjoy a surprise excerpt from Dane’s book.

      From Chapter One:

Today, Judy Carlson tried to be strong for her family’s sake, yet her vow not to cry betrayed her. Dane, her youngest, prepared for his fourth extended tour of duty. He’d be gone in a matter of hours. She folded her arms across her chest while standing at the window in her bedroom—the majestic Superstition Mountain looking back at her. Dane headed to the barn after his ride through the desert. As soon as he untacked the horse, he would barge through the back door. Judy listened. Waited. A few moments later the back door slammed as she expected.

Tapping on the bedroom door drew her attention. She inhaled a big breath and blew it out. “Just a minute,” she said, grabbing a tissue to dab at the wetness on her cheeks and tossed it into the wicker trash basket beside her desk.

      “Mom? Can I come in?”

Dane. She summoned up the strength to hold it together. “Come in.”

When he entered, he closed the door behind him. She forced a smile and walked around her queen-sized sleigh bed toward him.

He stuffed his hands into his front pockets and took a minute before making eye contact. “Can we talk?”

“Definitely.” Their eyes met, and for a moment she saw that blond-headed, blue-eyed boy asking for a cookie. She held her arms out and they hugged.

He patted her back while she patted his. “It’ll be okay, Mom. I hate leaving you guys to worry. You know I’ll be home before you realize it.” His voice came out with an unfamiliar cracking.

No, she didn’t. Every day was like a hundred piled into one while he was in combat. “I understand.” She lied. “Have you changed your mind about us coming to the base for the deployment send-off?” Send off? Like hell. Sending him off and not knowing if he’d return? It tore at her heart each time. “We can get plane tickets.” Judy wrinkled her nose at the familiar barn smells of hay and horses, on her son.

Dane stood straight, taking a minute before speaking. He nonchalantly brushed his hair back. “No, not this time.” He took a seat on her bed like he’d done as a teenager who needed answers to some big problem, like what shirt to wear on his first date. His eyes lowered. “It’s not only hard on all of you.”

It had to be hard for him to admit. “I understand.” Judy slipped her arm around his waist when she sat beside him, and leaned her head against his broad shoulder. “Why did you have to sign up again?” Oh, Lord, she shouldn’t be making it more difficult, because the choice wasn’t always his.

Dane sat sideways to face her. With seriousness in his eyes and a tilt to his head, he calmly said, “You know why—this is my job.”

Judy nodded. She knew why all right. Because he had to Ranger up. Well, she’d rather he did giddy-yup out in the Sonoran Desert instead of some desert thousands of miles away. She peered out the window to watch for a moment as the horses galloped in the pasture. An image of peacefulness. “Because this is what you do.”

    • Cover Reveal! On the 12th Date of Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett

      Posted at 9:09 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on October 2, 2013

You might remember earlier this year I did a cover reveal for Nikki Lynn Barrett and her book “Love and Music in Texas, Book One”. Well, she’s back and today I’m helping Nikki reveal the cover to her new book “On the 12th Date of Christmas”

On The 12th Date of Christmas Cover Reveal

      By Nikki Lynn Barrett

      Contemporary holiday romance

Expected release date: November 8, 2013

      AmazonBLURB:

After being mugged, Robin Sorenson is left shaken and her spirit in humanity broken. Worse, she’s not sure how to deal with the new anxieties or who to confide in since she’s always preached to pick oneself up and move on. Yeah, she’s been the go to girl when anyone’s had problems.
Christmas is coming, and her belief in magic and miracles has faded.

      Then Jonas comes back.

Jonas Aimes made a mistake. A big one, when he walked away from Robin a year earlier. He’d loved her, always had and still does, but his desire to please his aging and strict parents took precedence. Back from the overseas internship they’d struggled to get him in, he plans on winning Robin back. What he didn’t count on was discovering the shell of the vivacious woman he’d loved.

      Broken.

Remembering her love of Christmas, Jonas pulls the holiday heartstrings. What? All is fair and love and war. Right?

      Twelve days, Twelve Dates.

Robin is speechless when Jonas not only refuses to leave her alone, but dares her to accept his cheesy holiday themed challenge. Twelve dates to give him a chance to prove he loves her and is never leaving her again.

But in the season known for miracles can Robin find the magic needed to open her heart and faith once more…or will she forever wonder about the ghost of the Christmas past that could have been?

      A Stand-Alone Book

      EXCERPT:

Jonas walked up the steps and rang the doorbell. He heard the sound of the kids laughing and playing inside. A few seconds later, the door opened and there stood Jacob, with the kids behind him.

“Hey there. Come on in. Robin’s just about ready.” Jacob opened the door for him and stepped back to let him in.

“Thanks.” Jonas stepped inside, thankful for the warmth.

Ben waved at him. “Are you taking Miss Robin to have fun?”

“I sure am. I hope that’s okay with you!” Jonas bent down to give him a high five.

“Only if you’re nice to her. She’s my favorite baby sitter.” Ben said seriously.

“Hey, what about your grandma?” Jacob teased.

“I love Grandma, too! But Miss Robin was our baby sitter for a long time before she came to live with us.” Ben laughed.

“Oh I’m your favorite, huh Ben?”  At the sound of Robin’s voice, Jonas stood to his full height and he swept his gaze over her. Clad in a pair of blue jeans and a purple knit sweater, she looked good. Not as tired, and she sent him a smile when her gaze locked on him.

“I have lots of favorites.” Ben admitted.

“I bet you do. Well, you’re my favorite little boy!” She reached out to tickle his side as she passed by him.

“No tickling!” Ben squealed, bouncing away from her.

“You win. No tickling.” Robin smiled.

      “Good, I win, I win!”

“For now.” Robin winked. “I will plan my tickle attack for later!” She curled her fingers and wiggled them at Ben. He shrieked and ran the other way. She laughed.

Jonas loved her laugh. He hadn’t heard much of it lately. Her laugh was just another on the list of things he missed about her.

“What is with all this shouting about going on?” Cheyenne’s voice drifted from the hallway as she walked into the living room. She smiled at everyone. “Hey Jonas. You two have a good time tonight.”

“I’ll do my best to ensure that happens.” He held his hand out to Robin.

“You bring her back by midnight, you hear?” Jacob teased, the corners of his lips twitching.

“Jake! Quit that.” Cheyenne giggled, wrapping her arm around him.

Robin laughed. “I am not your practice for when Desiree dates, Jacob. Nice try.” She shot Jonas a grin. “Maybe we’d better get out of here before I become more of a guinea pig.”

“Hey, at least I didn’t pull a Rodney Atkins or something, you know that song, don’t you?” Jacob smirked.

“Okay, that’s it. We’re out of here!” Robin tugged on Jonas’s hand. “He’s relentless!”

      “Wait what song?” Jonas laughed.

“No, it doesn’t matter!” Robin edged toward the door, wagging her finger at Jacob. “You are terrible.” She tossed at him with a grin.

      Baby Stetson

Love and Music in Texas, Book One

In small Texas towns, strangers come and go…

Left in a Stetson hat, on the steps of the local bed and breakfast, Avery Callimer came into the world on a wing and a prayer. Raised by loving adoptive parents, she’s never lacked for love…only the knowledge of her past.

By day she works the Inn, but by night…Avery comes alive as lead singer in a band. Life was good…stable, until new guests blew into town.

Some strangers come with secrets and lies.

Lucas Bennett is one such stranger. Drifting from one mess to another has left him jaded. Doesn’t matter the dramas are never his doing. Giving it one last shot to make a fresh start lands him Harmony’s Echo, Texas and smack dab in front of the tantalizing Avery.

Despite his best efforts to ignore the burn Avery’s ignited within, he’s intent to keep his distance. Secrets have followed him. Secrets he doesn’t want Avery to know.

Each time they’re near the other things heat up like a brushfire on a dry Texas prairie.

But maybe, after the dust settles and the smoke clears, love can bloom with a fresh start.
