It’s already Week 15 in the 52-Week Blog Challenge Blog Hop. I’ve been so bad at this challenge, but when I decided to do this, I knew I wouldn’t be able to participate each week. And that’s okay according to the rules at Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge.

Week 15 Topic: My Social Media Hangouts

Feel free to Follow, Friend, Like, Peek, or visit now and then to see what is going on. I don’t spend a lot of time on any of my sites, but Facebook and Twitter are the ones I use more regularly.

Website/Blog: You’re here now.  🙂 Thanks for visiting.

Facebook Personal Page: “Personal pages” have a limit of 5000 Friends but unlimited Followers.

Facebook Author Page: I don’t use this as much as my personal page, though I’ve considered moving most of my posts to my author page. Unfortunately, most of you don’t get to see my posts there because Facebook wants me to pay to boost posts so you will see them. Our “Facebook Pages” (author page) have unlimited Likes and Followers.

One thing I like about the personal and author pages at Facebook is the Notes section. This can be shared as a status. It has hyperlinks and you can add photos with your post. Here’s an example: https://www.facebook.com/notes/author-mary-j-mccoy-dressel/whats-it-about-where-is-it-hey-cowboy-bull-rider-series-2/10151775941969319/

Twitter: I’ve been lax with Twitter too but once this next book gets out, I plan on going back to regular Tweeting. When I’m on a roll with regular posting, I use Buffer to schedule posts.

I don’t use the following social media sites as often as I should.

      Goodreads: Now owned by Amazon.

Google Plus: You can join groups/communities. This is great if you like to join Hangouts. Google Hangouts is a communication platform developed by Google which includes instant messaging, video chat, SMS and VOIP features. Credit: Wikipedia.

LinkedIn: I do have a profile here, but I’m invisible, meaning I don’t post anything or do anything here. In fact, I’m not sure how an author should use LindkedIn. Visiting my profile minutes ago, I realized I was three books behind, so I updated that part of my profile.

Author’s Den: I post my books here. There is more to do on this site.

As I’ve said, I don’t keep some of these sites updated like I should. My goal right now is to “write books” instead of spending a lot of time on social media. I try to post on Facebook and Twitter daily. Sometimes I run out of things to post about, so I’ll share something from other Facebook pages. I’ve been on Facebook for many years and some Friends have been with me since the beginning. When you Friend or Like a page, make sure you check to Receive Notifications so you will see posts.

I appreciate your visit today. Please Visit the other participants.

Authors, I’ll be visiting your posts throughout the weekend. I have a book coming out very soon, and you know how that goes.  ❤

    • Cover Reveal! On the 12th Date of Christmas by Nikki Lynn Barrett

      Posted at 9:09 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on October 2, 2013

You might remember earlier this year I did a cover reveal for Nikki Lynn Barrett and her book “Love and Music in Texas, Book One”. Well, she’s back and today I’m helping Nikki reveal the cover to her new book “On the 12th Date of Christmas”

On The 12th Date of Christmas Cover Reveal

      By Nikki Lynn Barrett

      Contemporary holiday romance

Expected release date: November 8, 2013

      AmazonBLURB:

After being mugged, Robin Sorenson is left shaken and her spirit in humanity broken. Worse, she’s not sure how to deal with the new anxieties or who to confide in since she’s always preached to pick oneself up and move on. Yeah, she’s been the go to girl when anyone’s had problems.
Christmas is coming, and her belief in magic and miracles has faded.

      Then Jonas comes back.

Jonas Aimes made a mistake. A big one, when he walked away from Robin a year earlier. He’d loved her, always had and still does, but his desire to please his aging and strict parents took precedence. Back from the overseas internship they’d struggled to get him in, he plans on winning Robin back. What he didn’t count on was discovering the shell of the vivacious woman he’d loved.

      Broken.

Remembering her love of Christmas, Jonas pulls the holiday heartstrings. What? All is fair and love and war. Right?

      Twelve days, Twelve Dates.

Robin is speechless when Jonas not only refuses to leave her alone, but dares her to accept his cheesy holiday themed challenge. Twelve dates to give him a chance to prove he loves her and is never leaving her again.

But in the season known for miracles can Robin find the magic needed to open her heart and faith once more…or will she forever wonder about the ghost of the Christmas past that could have been?

      A Stand-Alone Book

      EXCERPT:

Jonas walked up the steps and rang the doorbell. He heard the sound of the kids laughing and playing inside. A few seconds later, the door opened and there stood Jacob, with the kids behind him.

“Hey there. Come on in. Robin’s just about ready.” Jacob opened the door for him and stepped back to let him in.

“Thanks.” Jonas stepped inside, thankful for the warmth.

Ben waved at him. “Are you taking Miss Robin to have fun?”

“I sure am. I hope that’s okay with you!” Jonas bent down to give him a high five.

“Only if you’re nice to her. She’s my favorite baby sitter.” Ben said seriously.

“Hey, what about your grandma?” Jacob teased.

“I love Grandma, too! But Miss Robin was our baby sitter for a long time before she came to live with us.” Ben laughed.

“Oh I’m your favorite, huh Ben?”  At the sound of Robin’s voice, Jonas stood to his full height and he swept his gaze over her. Clad in a pair of blue jeans and a purple knit sweater, she looked good. Not as tired, and she sent him a smile when her gaze locked on him.

“I have lots of favorites.” Ben admitted.

“I bet you do. Well, you’re my favorite little boy!” She reached out to tickle his side as she passed by him.

“No tickling!” Ben squealed, bouncing away from her.

“You win. No tickling.” Robin smiled.

      “Good, I win, I win!”

“For now.” Robin winked. “I will plan my tickle attack for later!” She curled her fingers and wiggled them at Ben. He shrieked and ran the other way. She laughed.

Jonas loved her laugh. He hadn’t heard much of it lately. Her laugh was just another on the list of things he missed about her.

“What is with all this shouting about going on?” Cheyenne’s voice drifted from the hallway as she walked into the living room. She smiled at everyone. “Hey Jonas. You two have a good time tonight.”

“I’ll do my best to ensure that happens.” He held his hand out to Robin.

“You bring her back by midnight, you hear?” Jacob teased, the corners of his lips twitching.

“Jake! Quit that.” Cheyenne giggled, wrapping her arm around him.

Robin laughed. “I am not your practice for when Desiree dates, Jacob. Nice try.” She shot Jonas a grin. “Maybe we’d better get out of here before I become more of a guinea pig.”

“Hey, at least I didn’t pull a Rodney Atkins or something, you know that song, don’t you?” Jacob smirked.

“Okay, that’s it. We’re out of here!” Robin tugged on Jonas’s hand. “He’s relentless!”

      “Wait what song?” Jonas laughed.

“No, it doesn’t matter!” Robin edged toward the door, wagging her finger at Jacob. “You are terrible.” She tossed at him with a grin.

      Baby Stetson Blurb:

      Baby Stetson

Love and Music in Texas, Book One

In small Texas towns, strangers come and go…

Left in a Stetson hat, on the steps of the local bed and breakfast, Avery Callimer came into the world on a wing and a prayer. Raised by loving adoptive parents, she’s never lacked for love…only the knowledge of her past.

By day she works the Inn, but by night…Avery comes alive as lead singer in a band. Life was good…stable, until new guests blew into town.

Some strangers come with secrets and lies.

Lucas Bennett is one such stranger. Drifting from one mess to another has left him jaded. Doesn’t matter the dramas are never his doing. Giving it one last shot to make a fresh start lands him Harmony’s Echo, Texas and smack dab in front of the tantalizing Avery.

Despite his best efforts to ignore the burn Avery’s ignited within, he’s intent to keep his distance. Secrets have followed him. Secrets he doesn’t want Avery to know.

Each time they’re near the other things heat up like a brushfire on a dry Texas prairie.

But maybe, after the dust settles and the smoke clears, love can bloom with a fresh start.

    • Ritualistic Book Reader

      Posted at 5:52 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on November 18, 2012

I picked up three or four new Kindle books this weekend, and I think one at Smashwords during the week. (←Link goes to my book) When you have a lot of author friends and acquaintances, you know when their books first come out. You also know when they’re free or at a reduced price. I adore books! Being a writer, this should come as no surprise. Reading is a need I love, and I would like to do more of it. I try to make bedtime my reading time. During the day I’m busy writing and working on marketing, so in order to fit it in, I have to have my laptop off. I admit to having the TV on in the background though.

There are more books in my Kindle then I’ll ever get to at the rate I’m going now, but I am planning on more reading time in the near future. What do you do when you get a new book? I noticed I have a ritual when I buy a new book. Right away I have to open it, scroll back to the beginning, read all the pertinent information—title page, copyright, all that good front matter stuff. I love it if there’s a cover inside on the very first page. Then, if there’s a prologue I have to read it. Sometimes I even have to read chapter one. I look at the table of contents and will check out other books by the author, if included. I may not go back to that book for awhile, so if the blurb is in there, it sure helps when I get back to it. I do this ritual with print books, too.

If you look at my Goodreads page you’ll see I’m always reading more than one book at a time. (Don’t be afraid to add my book while you’re there.) It’s because I follow the ritual above. Sometimes I don’t stop at the prologue or chapter one. It depends on my mood. If the book is a short story or novella, I might finish it right then, depending on how long my eyes will stay open. In that case, it never gets to Goodreads, unless I rate it like I did this one.

After reading back through this post, and thinking about it, I realize I am a book addict. As a child I didn’t start out liking to read, although I was always a good reader from an early age. My dad made me read. I remember he joined a book club and books were delivered periodically. *Children’s Classics like Hansel and Gretel, Silver Skates, and Heidi. When I didn’t want to read, these books just kept coming, and my dad insisted I read them. As if that wasn’t enough, I had to tell him what I read. Today, I thank him for teaching me to love and appreciate books and stories. He also made me do school work in the summer, but that’s a different story. And write? Yes, he made me write! Thanks, Dad.

If you love books and reading, do you have a ritual when you first purchase a book in hard copy or eBook? Am I the only one with this quirky ritual?

Since I am a writer, as well as a reader, I’d like to invite you to sign up via email (Sidebar) or click Follow at the top of the page to receive updates about my books. It would make me very happy if my books found their way to your library. While I’m asking, I see I’m pushing toward 999 Likes on my Facebook Author Page. One thousand is my next goal, so if you care to…  (I’ve turned into such a promoter. I hope you don’t mind.)

*I used Amazon as an example. You can find children’s classics at many book stores, either online or brick and mortar.
