    • We’re Kissin’ Another Year Farewell – Muaaah!

      Posted at 8:34 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on December 31, 2016

      Well, it’s that time again. Thanks to all of you who have been supportive of me throughout the year either by visiting my blog, signing up for my newsletter, buying my books, sharing posts, and giving those “Likes and Comments” on my blog posts.

      I’ve had so much pleasure in visiting your blogs–reading your books, admiring your photography, reading your poetry, listening to your music, sampling your wine in a cyber glass, or enjoying your Gifs. Whew! Not to mention all the recipes I get to try! You’ve given me quite an assortment of topics to explore. Welcome newcomers, and I look forward to visiting your blogs.

      Wishing everyone all the best of 2017!

      ~From my home to yours~

      Salute!

      Mary J McCoy-Dressel

      I couldn’t resist sharing this quote.

      Old Year! upon the Stage of Time
      You stand to bow your last adieu;
      A moment, and the prompter’s chime
      Will ring the curtain down on you.
      Your mien is sad, your step is slow;
      You falter as a Sage in pain;
      Yet turn, Old Year, before you go,
      And face your audience again.

      ~Robert W. Service, “The Passing of the Year,” 1912

    • The Resolution/ Goal– NOT! Thursday 13

      Posted at 3:55 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on January 5, 2012

      My first Thursday 13 for 2012.   Happy New Year!

      1. Not going to back down on what I want. I am Woman, Hear me Roar…

      2. Not going to let myself get out of shape. (Once I get back into shape, of course.)

      3. Not going to let my body become lazy. (The treadmill has been seeing nothing but dust.)

      4. Not going into self-pity parties. Nope, not gonna do it. Laugh, laugh–

      5. Not going to neglect my friends. Hi FRIENDS—you’re all special to me.

      6. Not going to neglect my family. I lived too far from my family for seven years and I’ll never do it again. I love you, family.

      7. Not going to let half done manuscripts sit in my computer. I repeat- I’m not going to let half done manuscripts sit in my computer.

      8. Not going to get comfortable until a manuscript is finished.

      9. Not going to give up on Visions of Enchantment now that I have my publishing rights back.

      10. Not giving up on getting the rights back to Enchantment’s Embrace.

      11. Not going to keep putting off publishing to Kindle.

      12. Not going to settle with my own editing skills. Get real! We all need an editor in our life.

      13. Not going to eat a lot of junk food. Notice I said a lot. I can’t deprive myself or I’ll feel cheated. This does not include chocolate!

      To do your own Thursday 13, follow these rules.

    • Goals and Resolutions

      Posted at 5:26 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on January 8, 2011

      By now you’ve probably read every kind of New Year’s goal or resolution blog, story, advice, or joke available. So, here’s one more angle for you to consider.

      Which do you prefer, goals or resolutions? A resolution means you are resolving to do something—a plan of action to commit yourself to something you’re determined to do. A goal is something you want to reach—the result or achievement which effort is directed; aim; end. So, which do you prefer? Personally, I like to make goals instead of resolutions.

      It seems to be easier to reach because goals are usually met at different levels. It’s good to start out with a short term goal. For instance, if you want to lose weight, don’t set your goal at 25 pounds. Set it at six to eight pounds instead. When you reach that goal then set it for six to eight more pounds. It’s much easier to reach a short term goal. It also lets you feel good about yourself if you have a shorter time to aim for it instead of thinking it could take a year to get results.

      Another example is something writers do. Some authors set goals, saying they’ll write ten pages or 500 words, etc. I like to set my goal as chapters. When I finish a chapter, I feel like I’ve accomplished something more. A chapter is like a whole episode in a book, meaning you’ve finished another milestone in your story. A goal is what I want to reach for, to strive to meet. In a resolution, I am saying I am going to do it, and not falter with firm determination. There are too many obstacles that can get in your way with a resolution. Isn’t it depressing when you don’t meet what you resolved to do? That is one reason you should set short term goals instead of unrealistic resolutions.
