    • Tuesday Inspiration for the Muse: If Grass Can Grow…

      Inspiration for Writing Romance

“…Love can find you at every time in your life.” The last line in the quote inspires my muse. Age is only a number when it comes to love. Yes, I can agree with this because, once, love found me at a time later in life when I never expected it.

This post was inspired by a documentary I watched on PBS Wednesday night about Climate Change.

Since I bypassed Marketing for Romance Writers 52-Week Blog Challenge this week, I thought it fitting to share a couple of quotes for Earth Day since I missed the actual date:

“We each have a role to play in ensuring that we do not pass a world beyond repair on to our children. Everyone must do their part, and as long as we unite to protect the one planet we have, we can leave it in better shape for future generations. On Earth Day, let us all accept our individual responsibilities to care for the world we live in, and let us marshal our best efforts toward building a safer, more stable, and more sustainable world.” ~Barack Obama, 2016 April 21st, quoted from The White House Office of the Press Secretary

blog post Earth Day, Mary J McCoy-Dressel, looking upward at tall tree, new spring leaves, blue sky

“Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realise we cannot eat money.” ~Cree Indian Proverb

      Thanks for reading.

    • Cotton Diapers and a Limestone Quarry #FathersDay

      Posted at 11:25 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on June 16, 2019
library books on wall shelf, father and son sitting in comfortable chair with a book, faces covered with the book, Mary J McCoy-Dressel, post for Father's Day

This morning while searching for a special Father’s Day quote to post to social media, I came across a cute one. If you follow me on Facebook, you’ll see the same one there. Sorry for the repeat.

The following instructional quote won’t pertain to most fathers of the present day though some moms may still use *cotton diapers. Many of you will remember diapering your babies with cloth diapers. Where did you get your instructions?  🙂  Enjoy the quote, Dads. It might help if you’re into baseball! 🙂 Happy Father’s Day.  ❤

Spread the diaper in the position of the diamond with you at bat. Then fold second base down to home and set the baby on the pitcher’s mound. Put first base and third together, bring up home plate and pin the three together. Of course, in case of rain, you gotta call the game and start all over again. ~Jimmy Piersal, on how to diaper a baby, 1968

I lost my dad when my boys were teens. A favorite memory from my youth was going to work with him on some weekends. We lived in Detroit at the time. He was a heavy equipment operator and truck driver. He’d take me in the bull dozer with him on a half day of work. I remember sitting there so excited in the huge piece of machinery, amazed at how he operated it.

I loved everything about being with him on those weekends. However, I’d be terrified while he pushed load after load of whatever it was he pushed, over the edge into a humungous limestone quarry. I knew we were going over the edge! After work, we’d stop at a bar for lunch. I was too young to know where it was, but he knew all the guys there.

Later, his company moved their facility from Detroit to the Sibley Quarry in Trenton, Michigan where it remains to this day as an inactive limestone quarry. The link has an interesting tidbit about “Arm & Hammer” Baking Soda.

I know it’s hard to pick only one, but you’re welcome to share with us a favorite memory of your dad.

      Posted at 11:34 am by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on October 26, 2015

This quote by George Bernard Shaw tops my list of favorite quotes and inspires me. These words give my creative soul permission to keep going–and explains it all.

“…I dream of things that never were, and ask, “Why not?”

      pablo shaw

      *Misattributed

      • There are those that look at things the way they are, and ask why? I dream of things that never were, and ask why not?
        • Though Kennedy stated that he was quoting George Bernard Shaw when he said this, he is often thought to have originated the expression, which actually paraphrases a line delivered by the Serpent in Shaw’s play Back To Methuselah: “You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’”. This phrase was first used by his brother John F. Kennedy in 1963 (June 28th), during his visit to Ireland, in his address to the Irish Dail (Government): “George Bernard Shaw, speaking as an Irishman, summed up an approach to life, ‘Other people, he said, see things and say why? But I dream things that never were and I say, why not?” (Address on YouTube). Robert’s other brother Edward famously quoted it (paraphrasing it even further), to conclude his eulogy to his late brother after his assassination (8 June 1968): Some men see things as they are and say why? I dream things that never were and say why not? – (Eulogy in CBS news video)

I have a poster with this quote and it hung in my classroom for many years, so I could look at it daily. Now, it hangs in my apartment.

      What inspires you?

      Enjoy your week.

#Novellines Excerpt from Cowboy Boss and his Destiny #WesternRomance

Tristan ran his fingers up and down her arm, taking a moment to squeeze her neck in a firm massage.

“Your fingers are magical. For sure I’ll be sore tomorrow after that ride. I’ll have to soak in the hot tub. Come in with me Sunday?”

      “Yeah, sure. No problem.”

“You didn’t have to think about that much, did you?”

Tristan grinned. “Nope. Not if I get to see you in a bathing suit again. You have a hot body. You must work out a lot.” His fingers lingered against the side of her neck. She peered at him and his heart softened.

“I don’t work out much.” Her eyes raked over him. “You with those abs!”

“I work my ass off around here, even grab extra bales of hay when it’s delivered. I’m glad it shows.” He stood and took her hand, hauling her up. “I know some time tonight I have to let you go to bed, but holding you feels too damn good inside.”

“I like having you around to hold me.”

“You got it, sweetie. Let’s get inside, but I have to put the fire out first. The one in the fire pit, and mine.” He extinguished the fire and they gathered the pizza box, plates, and beer cans. Tristan turned to her as he held the door open on the way in. “Let’s fall asleep on the sofa together. Fully clothed so you don’t have to freak. I need to hold ya all night.”

Nora sat the items on the island in the kitchen and tossed the pizza box and paper plates to the trash. She turned to him when he sat the beer cans down. “Will your wild man pop out again if you share the sofa with me? I’d like your arms around me all night, cowboy, but…you know.”

“Oh, Nora, if anything pops…never mind.” Tristan lifted her into his arms and headed for the family room, shoving the door closed when he entered. He dropped her to the sofa, wrenched her beside him when he sat, and grabbed the remote…

    • Praise for my Friends

      Posted at 9:13 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on August 8, 2011

In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~Albert Schweitzer

How do you handle the Ups and Downs of your life? First and foremost, I turn to God, but today’s post is for friends who have stuck by my side through the ups and downs. I’m feeling a little emotional this week and it seems like the perfect time to write this.

So many days there’s been email after email from me about an UP or a DOWN. A phone call where I need to hear the voice of someone close, and know their shoulder is there. Through it all, my friends keep on responding with something positive or inspirational, whether it’s a poem, a Bible scripture, a smiley face, or a shoulder. When life drops me down, they pick me up. When something makes me happy, they smile with me. I don’t know where I’d be without them.

One friend in particular, has been my friend longer than any person I’ve ever known outside of family. This is my ‘make me laugh’ friend, my friend whom I can talk about being sixteen with, because we were together at sixteen. Another friend, my best friend, has put up with me since I was eighteen years old. She prays for me, worries for me, allows me to cry,
guides me, and loves me. If ever friends could be soul mates, she is my soul mate friend. Another close friend also makes me laugh, lends a shoulder, tells me jokes, makes me realize I can be whomever I choose to be, and tries to convince me I’m beautiful just as I am. Other friends in my life have been here for various amounts of time, but nevertheless, the greatest friends a person can have, and for this, I thank them.

I’m gained a lot of new friends along the way, and lost others. Some have moved on and some ne1222497kwlyjrlfwfver will. Saying good-bye to friends seems to be a pattern I soon hope to put an end to. And I know, no matter what, either distant or near, most of these friends will still be with me. I appreciate my friends; my bright flames who light the way for me when I need it, or shine even brighter when we share joy!

Some people come into our lives and quickly go. Some stay for a while, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never, ever the same. ~Flavia Weedn, Forever, © Flavia.com
