  Four years later, Velia and Caulder finish up another year of bull riding. They settle into their comfy abode in the snowy Allegheny Mountains to celebrate the Christmas season with a houseful of guests. La vita e bella! But why does their happily-ever-after have to come with an expiration date? Without warning, their most chilling nightmare comes true. An innocent misunderstanding, and a startling realization discovered too late—puts their contented little family at risk.

  On top of everything else, watching a new love bloom between two of the McCutchen guests, isn’t part of their agenda. Reece “Foley” Wilson, a former teammate, comes into contact with Velia’s cousin at the last show of the season and again while visiting for the holiday. Grown up and feisty, Natale Valente-Armano fell in love with this cowboy as a lovesick teen. Now, life has changed for both of them. How will they handle the unfamiliar thoughts and urges overtaking them? And, how will la famiglia respond to this unexpected romance?

  A little Christmas magic will be a welcome guest at Love House, but regardless if it arrives or not…during this bittersweet interlude—Velia and Caulder dare their happily-ever-after to be anything less than, “forever.”

• Meet the Heroines: Gorgeous and Feisty Brenna Page from Heartbreak’s Reward

  Introducing Brenna Page from Heartbreak’s Reward.

  

  What can I say about this Midwest girl? Brenna came from Iowa City, Iowa. How does she end up in “small town” Canyon Junction, AZ with the heat, dust storms, and monsoons? In order to save Chloe, her teen sister, from herself she accepted a job here. Brenna and Chloe both needed a fresh start—

  Brenna says,

  This town’s full of damn cowboys and mountains.

  Well, without that damn mountain, she might not have met Jase.

  Oh, boy, Brenna is a girl after my own heart. Why? It’s easy… Jase Carlson. Dang, he’s HOT!

  

  Some facts about Brenna:

  • She nurturing.
  • Quick-tempered
  • Witty
  • Loving
  • Heartbroken
  • Spunky (The spunkiest of all my heroines to date.)
  • She’s one of two of the youngest of my heroines to date. (31) Minus Chloe, of course.
  • Target practice is her hobby.
  • She takes no crap from a particular hot-headed cowboy.
  • She drives a red Mustang.
  • Brenna would love to be a part of a family. So would Chloe, but she’s too stubborn to know she needs one.

  Since you met Brenna, you have to meet Chloe, too. She insists.

  Chloe wants nothing to do with Brenna or Arizona.

  • She’s sixteen, or as she says, “seventeen” since she’s nearing her seventeenth birthday.
  • Stubborn as already stated
  • Chloe thinks cowboy’s are ridiculous. (Haha, the joke’s on her.)

  I’d rather not give more away about Chloe. This sassy little girl really grew on me as the story went along. I admit to shedding tears for these sisters.

• Short Snippet Saturday: Home

  This week I decided to do a snippet from the third book in the Double Dutch Ranch Series: Love at First Sight, a contemporary western romance series. Of the Cowboy’s Own Accord features the youngest brother at the ranch. I hope you enjoy the short snippet. Dane is my Army Ranger slash #Cowboy and a hero who stole my heart. This is from his mom’s point of view.

  Judy went to the stove and poured herself a cup of tea. “Can I get you something to eat, son?” It was almost like a dream to have him in her kitchen. Closing her eyes a moment, she popped them back open to see if he was really there.

  Dane already went to the fridge and took the flyer for pizza from the magnet. “Let’s get this.” He removed his phone from his pocket and ordered. When he put the phone down, he picked up his Duffle bag. “Same room?”

  “For goodness sakes, you have the same room. It’ll always be your room.” She detected that smirk. He teased. At least he still had that tease in him.
  She watched him leave. From the back, it looked like nothing was wrong. A handsome soldier decked out in an Army service uniform. He had all his limbs, and that was good enough for her. “Dane?”

  He glanced over his shoulder from the doorway and lifted his chin in question.

  “Your girl? She never came. Were you able to get in touch with her?” Dane didn’t like talking much about his personal life, but his personal life had been the military for years now—meant to be private. Maybe he didn’t have an issue with non-military life.

• Nineteen Thousand and Counting ~ NaNo 2012 Update

  It’s been a week for NaNoWriMo, and it’s time for a quick update. I’ve been on a roll with this sequel. It’s full of surprises. I have followed my outline, but those ideas brought new ideas. This is one thing I love about writing—the surprises. I’m excited about this second book. (But I can’t get my heart away from the first book, yet.) A little suspense appeared, and I have no idea where it came from, or if it will turn into anything. It follows one of the ideas in my outline, so there’s a good chance this part will remain when all is said and done, and editing and revising takes place. One thing I can honestly say—it absolutely kills me when I have to put a hero or heroine through hell. My characters are strong enough to take it.

  But am I?

  Each day, I write over the daily word count. Election Day was the only day I didn’t because I was engrossed in watching election happenings all evening. Most of my writing is during the day, but on Election Day I wasn’t home to write. I’ll catch up. LOL, I’m way over, what am I worried about? My advice has always been to Wrimo’s to write while you can, what you can, when you can because many times the “Oh no!” comes into play and something happens where you can’t write for a day or two.

  The instant I started this novel, I knew I had a title. Now, I have mixed feelings. To see these two books side by side, yes, the title fits as part of the series, but there are parts in the book I like, and I might have to change titles. When I

  choose a title, I like to take a phrase from the book. Does it make sense? I dunno. It’s just me. There is plenty of time for this.

  Now, a simple breakdown of where I am with this NaNoWriMo 2012 Novel:

  • Word Count: 19,014

  • Pages:              59

  • Chapter           15

  • Not as many strikethroughs as last year

  • I have deleted words.

  • I have written other scenes as they came to me, and stuck them at the end of the document so the words get counted. O_O exciting scenes!

  • I had to go back and fill in a brand new scene to match one of the surprises that popped up. Fun, really!

  • I have used contractions this year.

  Last year I didn’t use contractions throughout part of the novel. Better to have two words counted instead of one. The editing in the end was frustrating. This year I’m trying to avoid all that. Yes, it breaks some rules. Rules I suggest to others. M’bad. Turns out my inner editor didn’t go on a long vacation.

  Once again I’ll don my black leather jacket, because, yes, I’m a rebel. Again, m’bad.

  The * NaNoWriMo stats page says at this pace I should be finished on November 21^st. Last year I finished on November 29^th and averaged 1,942 words a day. This year so far, I’m averaging 2,376 words a day. It was past 3K in the beginning, but with one day of not making the daily count, it dropped down.

  Back to writing. Last night when I couldn’t get into it, I buckled down and wrote over 2K words, and had to get the count added to NaNo before midnight. I got in with two minutes to spare, and wrote twenty more words, and lost my Wi-Fi connection. Whew! At least my words were counted for yesterday. And the muse is still in a good mood. Yay!
