    • #MFRWhooks Don’t “What” Me, Master Sergeant.

Marketing For Romance Writers.org, Mary J McCoy-Dressel, western romance

Welcome to Marketing for Romance Writers Book Hooks Blog Hop.

Today I bring you a snippet from one of my works in progress to be released this spring. This is my ranch matriarch’s book, but each of her sons have their own POV in the book because they all have opinions (about everything). We’re in Dane’s POV. Dane is the youngest son who has PTSD or PTSS as it’s sometimes called now. Modified from the original to avoid spoilers.

Dane paced around the kitchen until Gracelyn placed her hand on his shoulder to stop him. He poured a cup of coffee. “What?”

“Don’t ‘what’ me, Master Sergeant Carlson. Is something wrong this morning?”

“I have stuff on my mind. Decisions to make. People to check out.” Dane couldn’t meet her gaze. He kept important matters from her. He wanted to make his decision before mentioning it. None of his family would like it if he said yes.

Hell, he wasn’t even in the right state of mind to accept such a job. Not now. A lot was at stake here, including care for his rescue horses if he took the job. Not to mention investigating who the hell followed his mother home last night. He’d seen it firsthand while out on horseback to clear his head. Two men. He’d come close to shooting and asking questions later, but that would’ve landed him in jail. Like he needed more bullshit.

“That’s it? Stuff? I don’t have to work today. We can visit Jase, but let’s talk about whatever’s going on.” Gracelyn wrapped her arms around him. “Dane, I know your moods. What troubles you?”

Dane drew her against him, closed his eyes, and inhaled the unique scent of her. He ran his hand down the back of her silky hair. “A couple guys followed Mom home last night.” That’s all he had to say for now.

      She questioned. “Lost?”

“Not this time. ” He lowered his forehead to her shoulder and drew her closer. His heart beat faster. “Mmm. You smell so good, honey. Is Will sleeping?”

    • Short Snippet Saturday: Sneak Peek ~Finding Kimber

Hey, it’s Saturday. This short, short graphic snippet makes up for last week’s long excerpt.  🙂  How about a peek into what’s been keeping me so busy these past months? It’s time you had a teeny glimpse of Kimber Sinclair and Zach Bryson.

      Finding Kimber is Now Available.

Canyon Junction: Hearts in Love Series #2

A Double Dutch Ranch Series Spin Off Novel.

This graphic isn’t a partial shot of the cover. This book is in the first round of edits with my editor.

If any of you read Lassoing the Last Dance, then you already met Zach. He’s Randy Drake’s best friend, a cowpuncher from Idaho and a former military man. Kimber is new to readers. While waiting on edits, I’ve been busy with another new book. I’m almost twenty-five thousand words into book three in this series. See Works in Progress for more.

All I’ll say about this snippet is Zach and Kimber are at a campground:

Oh, there is so much more….   Coming late 2017  ❤

      Have a grand weekend.

Mary J McCoy-Dressel Books, Western RomanceWhile (still) waiting for edits to come back on Bull Rider Series #3, and don’t get me going on this, I’ve been working on the fifth book in the Double Dutch Ranch Series. My publishing schedule has been delayed on Christmas at Love House, so I have to keep busy on another book to keep from going insane–because of the delay. I’ve been down this road before.

I’ve passed the 50K word count mark in Lassoing the Last Dance, so the book is well on its way. Wait! Back Up… What the heck is Lassoing the Last Dance? *Smiles* Well, it’s a  new title!<3

This has been a hard book for me to write and I don’t know why. Working on two other books at the same time might have something to do with the reason. More than likely, huh? At least two books out of the three are written. This takes a bit of a load off my shoulders, but I can honestly say that I need a break.

This morning I added a new page for this upcoming Double Dutch Ranch Series romance. A brief tidbit about Randy, one of my newest cowboys, can be found on the page. Here’s an unedited snippet from the book.

Set-up: Randy, our hero, is about to do something he is unsure of doing, but he won’t be able to think straight until he makes this visit.

Albeit, he trudged up the steps, knocked on the door—hoped for the best. To his surprise, a man opened. Well, hell, this is uncomfortable.

Mary J McCoy-Dressel Books, Western Romance

“Yeah?” was all the stern-faced guy said when he pushed open the outside door.

“Is Roxanne around tonight?” Randy held eye contact with the man, having no clue who he was, or why he answered the door. Of all people, he hoped like hell it wasn’t her ex-husband. If so, he might deck him right there just for the reason of all the things he had done to Roxanne in the past. Then he’d be disappointed in her for having him here.

      “I’ll get her. Hold on.”

All he did was yell for her, not go get her. Asshole.

       Thank you for reading.

It’s been a gorgeous week here. Enjoy your weekend!

It’s Halloween Eve and the ranch has prepared all day for the annual party tomorrow. Nora and Tristan have been working all day, both on the ranch and in the office. Their relationship is new…and close to ignition.

Seven Paragraphs from my current Work in Progress

Sexy Contemporary Western Romance with a holiday theme. Planning a November release.

Nora’s shoulders rose and fell when she took a deep breath then slowly exhaled. “You’re not alone in this. You awakened something inside of me, and I want to explore it right along with you.”

“Then what are we waiting for?”

Nora searched his eyes, pulled him closer. He held her tighter. All of his body responded to hers and hers to him.

“Let’s take a break, go to your house. I swear I can’t wait any longer. I’ve had a taste of your treasures, and now I want it all—slow and easy, until we’re spent and satisfied.”

She glanced out the window. His truck sat right out front. “How can we leave work?”

“Have you forgotten I’m the boss, darlin’? Save what you’re working on and leave the rest to me.” Tristan kissed her on the cheek. “I’ll be right back.” At the door, he turned. “I gotta have you. You. Not for what we’re about to do…but,” he paused, peered outside then glanced back to her. “For who you are and how happy you’ve made me.” He exited.

Nora dropped to her desk chair, peered at the work on her computer screen and closed it down. Her insides quivered in anticipation. He was right. They had a sample of each other, loving and sensual, but new. She’s had time to burn for him, want him…and yes, need to be with him. Understanding exactly what he meant. Taking her purse from the drawer, she removed her house keys. Not sure what he told everyone, but when he returned, she’d be ready.

Tristan is Caulder McCutchen’s cousin. Yes, the same Caulder from the Bull Rider Series. Info in sidebar or links at the top.

    • The Cowboy Continues– Update on Book #2 and Other Musings

      Posted at 4:41 pm by Mary J. McCoy-Dressel, on February 11, 2013

Update on the Second Book in the Bull Rider Series

couple_thumb.jpgWell, as it is right now book two sits at 103,445 words. Don’t get excited. That will change. I think it’s funny because I wanted this book to be around 60,000 to 80,000 words. It still could be…but not too likely. There are a lot of revisions to make. UPDATE: 3/16 You don’t even want to know how long this book is now. Two books in one–a bundle. Yes, you will get two books in one. You will not be sorry. (My editor is going to shoot me.)

Do you have a length preference in the books you read?

I have to call it “this” book— because I don’t have a title. Sure, I have a lot of ideas, and some of those 103K words are title suggestions I added to the top of QuestionMark2my document so I can look at them when I open it. Twenty-one potential titles if you really must know. I have lots of ideas, but nothing speaks to me. Well, maybe two say something, but I’m not sure. (Not the ones included here.)

I went as far as looking at background photos for a cover to go with one title I like. I must say this kind of bothers me because I usually have a title right away. To be honest, I did have a title when I began this, but it’s debatable now. One of my friends gave me a suggestion. What do you think?

      The Cowboy’s Ma’am

      Cowboy’s Ma’am

She said it will be perfect beside Howdy, Ma’am.

“This” book is broken up into two parts. I’m considering three parts. I always wanted to do that. I think it goes back to my young days of reading romance novels. I’m surprised I don’t write bodice-rippers. There’s still time. Big Grin! Something from those old days of reading romance novels, slipped into Howdy, Ma’am  Book #1 and my editor would have slapped my hands if she could reach me. Joelle you know what I’m talking about. Don’t tell on me!

Thisimage.png book excites me—makes me laugh—it makes me cry. Yes, I’ve been through many emotions writing this one. I <–think I need a lot of what this picture is. Also, wait till you meet the new characters I brought in.

I’m writing as fast as I can—well, I have been distracted lately. I even thought I image.pngcould do a “quick” book for Valentine’s Day. It reached just over 3000 words, but book two called me back. I’ll finish itimage.png one day.

At this moment, I have three images set aside for the basic cover image, and I know my cover designer Dawné Dominique will do magic with whichever I choose. One is similar to Howdy, Ma’am. The second is on the sensual side. Number three idea melts my heart. See, another dilemma. Have no fear Jimmy Thomas will still adorn the cover of book two with the same female model. My Velia and Caulder.

But you know what? I love my job because I know one day in the near future, book two will have a title, a cover, and will be available for readers to enjoy.

      Real Quick

It won’t be long before Howdy, Ma’am Book #1 is available in <–paperback.

You’ve heard me mention my heroine’s name–Velia. Have you ever wondered where that name came from? I’ll explain in a future post.

Look for a post about Valentine’s Day in the next day or two. It’s for singles. Why? I’m single, and so are some of you. Why not? paper-and-pen
